Welcome to GTTN Profile’s documentation!

Introduction

The GTTN Profile module is a collaboration between the University of Connecticut’s Plant Computational Genomics lab and the Global Timber Tracking Network (GTTN). It allows for the management of users and organizations within the GTTN network.

For users, GTTN Profile keeps track of organization membership. For organizations, GTTN Profile keeps track of sample analysis competencies.

The module is still in development, but is expected to be completed during the summer of 2019.

Data Overview

GTTN Profile keeps track of two different data types: users and organizations. Below are some more details about what data is actually collected and tracked:

User Information

GTTN Profile collects and tracks very minimal information about users - user information is limited to email address, name, and organization membership. Upon registering to become part of the GTTN network, users will be asked to provide their name and email address, as well as select the organization(s) they are part of.

Organization Information

GTTN Profile collects more information about organizations than it does for users. When registering, an organization must provide general information such as address, website, and primary contact information, as well as analysis competencies, certifications, partner organizations, legal restrictions, etc. For more information, please refer to Organization Metadata.

Tools Overview

GTTN Profile provides some tools for managing and using the data it holds. Here is a brief overview of the tools it provides and their functionality:

Service Providers Directory

The Service Providers Directory contains a listing of all the registered GTTN organizations within the GTTN Database. It shows a brief summary of each organization, including the organization name, website, supported analysis species, methods, products, and regions. The table can be filtered by species, method, product, or region. Clicking on the name of any organization within the Service Providers Directory will redirect the user to an organization detail view, where they can browse all of the information about the organization that is held in the database. For more information about the data found in the organization detail view, see Organization Metadata.

Service Request Form

The Service Request Form provides an interface where users can obtain the contact information of organizations that are qualified to run analysis on a sample in question. Users will select the type of question they need answered, details about the sample, time constraints for the analysis, regional constraints, certification requirements, etc, and in return will receive a list of contacts for organizations that meet all of the specified requirements.

Organization Metadata

This page contains more detailed information about the metadata required during organization registration. For a live-updated document of the metadata fields, formats, and additional notes, please see SPD Metadata.

The Organization Metadata is split up into three main sections: General Information, Analysis Capabilities, and Additional Lab Properties.

General Information

  • Name - The name of the organization.
  • Address - The address of the organizaiton, including Line 1, Line 2, Country, City, State/Province, and Postal Code.
  • Website - The website of the organizaiton.
  • Primary Contact Person - The primary contact person for the organization. This person must be a registered GTTN member.

Analysis Capabilities

  • Methods - The types of analysis methods that the organization supports. This includes molecular genomics methods, isotope analysis methods, anatomical methods, etc.
  • Products - The products that the organization can perform analysis on. This may include raw timber and wood, paper, musical instruments, furniture, etc.
  • Regions - The geographical regions that the organization can support analysis for. This could include continents, countries, or other regional identifiers.
  • Genus/Species - The Genus/Species that the organization can support analysis for. For each specified genus/species, the organization must also indicate whether it can support all selected analysis methods, products, and regions for that species. If it cannot, then the organization must also indicate which of its selected analysis methods, products, and regions it can support for the species.

Additional Lab Properties

Some additional properties of the organization are only shown when the organization has indicated certain analysis capabilities. For instance, the “Number of Isotope Signatures” property is only applicable when the organization has claimed to be able to support isotope analysis methods, and as a result is only shown when the organization has claimed to be able to support isotope analysis methods.

  • ISO17025 Accreditation
  • Other Accreditations
  • Number of Isotope Signatures
  • Years of experience with timber identification
  • Has the organization given evidence in a court case before?
  • Can you state any references from former service provision?
  • How many samples per week can your organization process?
  • How many business days on average does it take to perform analysis?
  • Does your company have strict confidentiality protocols in place?
  • Do you subcontract parts of service?
  • Do you have any partner organizations?
  • Can you perform analysis on public and private samples?
  • Is there regional restriction to where the service request can originate from?
  • Supported Isotope standards
  • Is your organisation ready to participate in blind tests to validate testing capability?
